Erasto was born in California and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he lived until returning to the US to attend graduate school in 2004. In Sao Paulo, Erasto worked as a researcher and consultant; he participated in large government projects to restructure public services. His focus was on strategic planning in areas including energy, water management, and the environment. Prior to that, Erasto worked for Gazeta Mercantil, one of Brazil's largest business and economic newspapers.
