Seema Desai is an analyst in Eurasia Group's Asia practice. She covers major political and economic developments in India, as well as key sectoral themes for a range of clients. Seema hold degrees in economics as well as Asian studies from London and Oxford universities. She speaks fluent Hindi.
Previously, Seema worked for Credit Lyonnais and Schroders as an economist covering Asia, including India, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan. Since then, Seema's research has increasingly focused on political economy themes, in particular the politics of growth in India and Southeast Asia, as well as economic comparisons between India and China. Seema has written monographs about the financial sector in India and the impact of India and China's rise on the world economy. She has also worked for a London-based foreign affairs think tank, and as a contributor to Oxford Analytica and the Economist Intelligence Unit. She has published articles in journals and on websites including The World Today and openDemocracy.
