David Kiu
Analyst
David Kiu joined Eurasia Group's Asia practice as an analyst in October 2008, leading the firm's analysis on Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and ASEAN, as well as regional security and terrorism developments. Sectorally, he focuses on energy, natural resources, agriculture, banking, telecommunications, and retail/consumer issues across Southeast Asia. David is a frequent commentator on Bloomberg and Reuters and has published several articles, including in Forbes. He has a bachelor's degree in politics, philosophy, and economics from St. John's College at Oxford University and a master's degree in international relations from the London School of Economics. He is proficient in Mandarin and Malay/Indonesian.
Before joining Eurasia Group, David spent seven years in government service in Singapore and two years in the air force. His most recent experience was serving in the national security coordination secretariat of the prime minister's office, dealing with national security policy issues. He also pioneered the development of the national security strategic early warning program, applying decision science and statistical modeling to analyze risk and evaluate risk mitigation strategies. Prior to that, he spent several years as a senior analyst for political and security issues covering Southeast Asia. His areas of expertise included terrorism and counterterrorism developments, elections coverage, and foreign policy issues.
