NEW YORK, 8 August-Eurasia Group is pleased to announce that Erica Downs has joined the firm's China practice as a senior analyst. Based in Washington, Erica will focus on China's politics and economy, with a particular emphasis on the energy sector. She will also follow its overseas investment, lending, and the geopolitical implications of its international commercial activities.
"Erica's extensive knowledge of China's energy sector and energy policy will enhance our capability to cover Asia's biggest economy," said Nicholas Consonery, Eurasia Group's director of China coverage. "Her analytical expertise and knowledge in the energy space will strengthen our team and keep Eurasia Group at the forefront of financial market and corporate analysis of China at a pivotal moment as the government pushes a historic agenda of reform."
Prior to joining Eurasia Group, Erica was a fellow in the John L. Thornton China Center at the Brookings Institution. Previously, she worked as an energy analyst at the Central Intelligence Agency and as a lecturer at the Foreign Affairs College in Beijing, China. Erica holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. from Princeton University and a B.S. from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.
Erica has published extensively on China's energy policies, oil industry, and cross-border investments as well as related foreign policy issues. She is an experienced media commentator and public speaker, and she is available for interviews and speaking engagements.
