NEW YORK, 1 October 2015 - Eurasia Group is proud to welcome the Honorable John Baird as a senior advisor to the firm. An expert on foreign policy and the international marketplace, Baird will partner with Eurasia Group to offer strategic insight into navigating the global economy.
"John Baird's political experience spans two decades and all corners of the world, including four years as a G7 foreign minister," said Ian Bremmer, Eurasia Group's president. "He is a significant addition to our advisory team and his international affairs expertise will be an unparalleled resource."
Baird served for more than 20 years in both the Ontario legislature and the Canadian parliament. After entering federal politics, he held a variety of cabinet posts, including president of the Treasury Board; environment minister; minister of transport, infrastructure, and communities; leader of the government in the House of Commons; and most recently, minister of foreign affairs. During his tenure in federal politics, Baird engaged in a range of international challenges, including the Canada-China Dialogue, climate change, economic growth in Southeast Asia, and tensions in the Middle East. Of particular note, he signed an agreement to cooperate with the United Arab Emirates on the peaceful uses of nuclear technology.
"With geopolitical risk on the rise, it is crucial for businesses to factor politics into their strategic decision-making," said Baird. "I'm pleased to join Eurasia Group, the leader in political risk analysis, to help its clients anticipate how world politics will affect markets."
In addition to his work with Eurasia Group, Baird is a senior business advisor for Bennett Jones and sits on the advisory board of Barrick Gold Corp., as well as the corporate boards of CP Rail, FWD Group, and PineBridge Investments. He is a global strategic advisor to Hatch Ltd. (Full bio)
