As strategic counselor for Eurasia Group, Dominic Barton's experience as former global managing director of McKinsey and Canadian ambassador to China expands Eurasia Group's ability to offer bespoke services to clients and unique insights on global markets, especially in Asia.
Barton was born in Uganda and is a Rhodes Scholar. In addition to being an active participant in international forums and a member of multiple boards, including the current chairmanship of Rio Tinto, Barton is the chair of LeapFrog Investments and has served as an adviser for institutions such as the Asian Development Bank.
In his role as ambassador to China, Barton spearheaded Canada's efforts to secure the release of two Canadians accused of espionage by Beijing in a years-long standoff between the two countries and the US over the arrest of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou.
He spent more than three decades at McKinsey, including as global managing partner, and several years leading the offices in Korea and Shanghai as Asia Chairman. As strategic counselor for Eurasia Group, Barton provides advice on the firm's strategic direction, engages with key clients, and contributes to analytic work, particularly on China and Asia broadly. He also develops new commercial opportunities and advises on the firm's internal business strategy.
