Omar is a senior analyst in Eurasia Group's Middle East and North Africa Practice, focusing primarily on the countries of North Africa. Previously, Omar worked for 14 years in the Egyptian foreign service as a cabinet adviser to four ministers of foreign affairs between 2009 and 2018. He focused on Arab, African, and multilateral issues. Omar served in Egypt's diplomatic missions in Paris and Rabat and represented the country at international organizations including the UN, the African Union, and the OECD. He also served as diplomatic adviser to the secretary-general of the Union for the Mediterranean between 2021 and 2023.
Omar holds a master's degree in international relations from Sciences Po in Paris and a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from Cairo University.
